Milan Radosavljevic 318d13870f [rocprofiler-systems] Update logging to use spdlog library (#2428)
## Motivation

- Structured logging with proper log levels (TRACE, DEBUG, INFO, WARNING, ERROR, CRITICAL)
- Better performance through compile-time formatting
- Consistent formatting using fmt library
- Runtime log level control via arguments and environment variables
- Easier maintenance and debugging capabilities

## Technical Details

- Added spdlog as a submodule and integrated it into CMake build system
- Created new `rocprofiler-systems-logger` library wrapping spdlog functionality
- Replaced custom logging macros (`ROCPROFSYS_VERBOSE`, `ROCPROFSYS_DEBUG`, `ROCPROFSYS_FATAL`, `ROCPROFSYS_REQUIRE`, `ROCPROFSYS_CI_THROW`, etc.) with spdlog equivalents (`LOG_DEBUG`, `LOG_WARNING`, `LOG_CRITICAL`, etc.)
- Implemented log level control through command-line arguments and environment variables
- Converted assertion macros to proper error handling with exceptions and std::abort()

Milan Radosavljevic 719556fbba [rocprofiler-systems] Add SIGKILL delay option (#2384)
## Motivation

When profiling multi-process applications where a parent process sends SIGKILL to child processes, the termination can occur before the profiler has a chance to flush collected data. This PR introduces a configurable delay before SIGKILL signals are forwarded, allowing profiling data to be captured before process termination. This is workaround.

## Technical Details

- Added new configuration setting `ROCPROFSYS_KILL_DELAY` (default: 0 seconds) to specify a delay before SIGKILL signals are forwarded to other processes
- Implemented `kill_gotcha` component that intercepts the `kill()` system call
- The gotcha only delays SIGKILL signals sent to external processes (pid > 0 and not self)
- Integrated `kill_gotcha_t` into the `preinit_bundle_t` for early initialization

marantic-amd 3b11e01716 Perfetto traces from cached data (#1704)
## Motivation

The idea is to unify the way and place where we store our traces. Current implementation uses `trace_cache` for rocpd traces, but perfetto is in lined inside of each module. This change allows us to have a single point in code where we will collect data, process it and store it in the desired format. This means that we can declutter the code further and have single point of responsibility and single point of failure.

## Technical Details

New `processor` (perfetto_post_processing.cpp) is added to the `trace_cache` which purpose is to use the cached data to populate perfetto tracks. Cache manager is responsible for keeping the instance of this processor and for its lifetime.

* Refactor papi enumeration to fix a hang on Intel systems

- Add an exclude argument to available_events_info() for
  perf_event_uncore causing hang like case on Intel systems with large
number of uncore events.
- Enumerate papi available events only when papi events are specified by
  users inside early initialization logic
- Move papi available event query for ROCPROFSYS_SAMPLING_OVERFLOW_EVENT
  config setting to the avail component, to move the heavy logic outside
initialization.
- Make category option for rocprof-sys-avail -H -c case insensitive
- Provide new option to query available overflow events that can be
  specified for ROCPROFSYS_SAMPLING_OVERFLOW_EVENT using new command
option rocprof-sys-avail -H -c overflow

- Add support for RCCL API tracing through rocprofiler-sdk.
- Refactored the comm_data code to use the SDK RCCL_API callbacks.
- Add a runtime version check for SDK to gate callback enablement, rather than just the compile-time check.
- Fixed: SAMPLING_TIMEOUT was not being handled correctly in add_test.

Fixes a bug where all the `ROCPROFSYSE_AMD_SMI_METRICS` values were being recorded by default.
Fixes bug with the 'all' and 'none' values giving an exception when specified for `ROCPROFSYSE_AMD_SMI_METRICS`.

Sajina PK 2d6b4d9988 Enable VCN tracing in Perfetto output (#65)
Enable VCN activity tracing on different instances from the GPU metrics fetched using rsmi_dev_gpu_metrics_info_get in the ROCm-SMI. library.

The tracing can be controlled with ROCPROFSYS_ROCM_SMI_METRICS by setting the value as vcn_activity, Currently this configuration takes the following values: busy, temp, power, mem_usage, vcn_activity.
By default, all the 5 values will be enabled.

David Galiffi b29cfac106 Update to use rocprofiler-sdk (#55)
- Renames the CMake option "ROCPROFSYS_USE_HIP" to "ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCM"
- Remove the "ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCM_SMI option. Controlled with the "ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCM" option, instead.
   - Runtime configuration can still toggle ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCM_SMI to disable the sampling.
- Rename ROCPROFSYS_HIP_VERSION macro to ROCPROFSYS_ROCM_VERSION and remove blocks for `ROCPROFSYS_ROCM_VERSION < 60000`
- Remove ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCTRACER and ROCPROFSYS_USE_ROCPROFILER
- Update test cases
- Update docker files and workflows to install cmake 3.21, which is required for the rocprofiler-sdk findPackage script.
- Removed rocm-6.2 from workflows due to a rocprofiler-sdk API change.

Jonathan R. Madsen f597b5fe9d Binary instrumentation: more robust exclusion of functions used internally (#238)
## Overview

This PR attempts to increase the stability of binary rewrite and runtime instrumentation.

### Improved protection against self-instrumentation

Using ~~the binary analysis capabilities added from #229~~ the Dyninst SymtabAPI, OmniTrace now does a much better job of avoiding instrumentation of functions which are internally called by OmniTrace:

- The `omnitrace` executable searches for and parses the symbols of various libraries which are known to cause problems when instrumented
  - GNU libraries which are common to nearly every library, e.g., `"libc.so.6"`, `"libdl.so.2"`, etc., and thus are outside the scope of the users optimizations efforts
  - Libraries which OmniTrace depends on for functionality, e.g. `"libunwind.so"`, `"libgotcha.so"`, `"libroctracer64.so"`, etc.
    - OmniTrace skips instrumenting any `module_function` instance when it's member `module_name` or `function_name` variable matches the library name, source file, or function name found for that symbol (unless the user explicitly requests that it be eligible for instrumentation)
- Note: the parsing of the "internal" libraries may result in longer instrumentation time and higher memory usage. Please file an issue if either of these is found to be excessive.

### Function filters based on linkage and visibility

Added options to restrict instrumentation to certain linkage types (e.g. avoid instrumenting weak symbols) and visibility types (e.g. avoid instrumenting hidden symbols).

### Function filters based on instructions

In the past, after instrumentation, some applications instrumented by Dyninst would fail with a trap signal (e.g. #147). In several cases, it was found that this occurred whenever certain instructions were present in the function so an option was added to exclude functions based on one or more regex patterns was added. 

## Details

- generates list of "internal" libraries and attempts to find the first match via:
  - the library is already open, e.g. `dlopen(<libname>, RTLD_LAZY | RTLD_NOLOAD)`
  - searching for the library in `LD_LIBRARY_PATH`
  - searching for the library in `OMNITRACE_ROCM_PATH`, `ROCM_PATH`
  - searching the folders from `/sbin/ldconfig -p`
  - searching for the library in common places such as `/usr/local/lib`
- provides new `--linkage` command line option to restrict instrumentation to functions with particular type(s) of linkage
  -  Linkage types: `unknown`, `global`, `local`, `weak`, `unique`
- provides new `--visibility` command line option to restrict instrumentation to functions with particular type(s) of visibility 
  - Visibility types: `unknown`, `default`, `hidden`, `protected`, `internal` 
- provides new `--internal-module-include` and `--internal-function-include` command line regex options to bypass automatic exclusion from instrumentation
- provides new `--internal-library-append` command line option to specify a library should be considered internal
- provides new `--internal-library-remove` command line option to specify a library should not be considered internal
- provides new `--instruction-exclude` command line regex option to exclude functions which contain matching instructions
- provides new `--internal-library-deps` command line option to treat libraries linked to internal libraries as internal libraries
  - generally, this will only be helpful during runtime instrumentation when OmniTrace is built with an external dyninst library which is dynamically linked to boost libraries and the application is using the same boost libraries
- relaxed restrictions in `module_function::is_module_constrained()`
- relaxed restrictions in `module_function::is_routine_constrained()`
- added a few miscellaneous nullptr checks

## Miscellaneous

- Fix `LD_PRELOAD` + `OMNITRACE_DL_VERBOSE=3` issue
- Adds a sampling offload verbose message
- Improves MPI send-recv.cpp example error message
- Minor tweaks to binary library
  - `binary::get_linked_path` returns `std::optional<string>`
  - renamed `binary::symbol::read_bfd` to `binary::symbol::read_bfd_line_info`
  - `binary::get_binary_info` has param options for reading line info and included undefined symbols
- fixed another edge case instance of resource deadlock during first call to configure_settings
- improved the error log printing in `omnitrace` (does not print repeated messages)
